TRACK: Mugiboogie
WHO: Icelandic eccentric Örn Elías Guðmundsson, better known as Mugison.
WHAT: To describe it as anything other than Mugison would be misleading.
THE HYPE: "Like a country-blues Led Zeppelin, armed with a muscular backing band of electric bass, pedal steel guitar and cannon-fire drums." - Rolling Stone
WE SAY: Having previously released electronica on Matthew Herbert’s Accidental Records, Mugison has ditched his laptop to go old school. Mugiboogie is the musical equivalent of Mr Potato Head: part of the fun is sticking bits where they shouldn’t go to see how it looks.Mugiboogie does that joyfully with its grab-bag approach to music.
Diverse elements of rock history bash and rattle against each other like deer locking antlers trying to assert their authority – sleazy glam rock beats rumble beneath classic-sounding blues guitar riffs, which cuddle up to a volcanic jazzy Hammond organ riff. It’s the sound of people enjoying what they do – and that’s what makes it so refreshing.
IF YOU ONLY NEED TO KNOW ONE THING: Having recently toured Canada with Queens Of the Stone Age, Mugison is performing a series of dates in England from July 9.
WHERE CAN I GET MY HANDS ON IT: Mugison’s albumMugiboogiee is released on July 14 on Mugiboogiee.
